Hollmén Reuter Sandman Architects were invited by the Finnish Cultural Institute in Madrid to represent Finland in the Concentrico Architecture Festival in Logroño, Spain.
The park Glorieta del Doctor Zubía is a small urban oasis next to a school in the city centre. We found the light and the atmosphere in the park attractive. Our proposal emphasises nature’s presence in the city centre and enriches its biodiversity by introducing birdhouses.
With the help of local ornithologists we identified five different bird species and bats that potentially would fancy the park’s environment. Each of the species got their own type of habitation according to their particular and precise needs.
The houses are built of recycled plywood. The ornament reflects the impressive stone paving surrounding the trees in the park. The drawings on the info boards are made by Emma Komi. The boards are attached to recycled tables from last year’s festival.
